Grandview Golf Course overlooks the Allegheny plateau and the Susquehanna River. Situated high atop the river carved valley, beautiful vistas of Northern Clearfield County abound. The course was an award winning course when it was built in 1978. Located on a former coal strip mine, the Spencer brothers, owners of Hepburnia Coal Company, reclaimed this land as an 18 hole championship golf course. Par is set at 34 for the front nine and 37 for the back. The front nine is a challenging test of shotmaking. The opening hole is a 390 yard uphill test to a long, narrow green. Rated the 3rd handicap hole, a par here is a steal. The most difficult hole to par on the entire course is the Par 3 3rd hole. This monster is 220 yards, slightly downhill to a steeply sloping back to front green, guarded on both sides by bunkers. The difficulty of this hole lay in its narrow green and narrow passage to the hole. To the right finds trees, to the left a 10 foot drop off. Players standing at 2 over par after the first 3 holes are in good shape. The front nine ends with a spectacular 9th hole. An elevated tee with a view of all but 3 holes on the course begins this 440 yard tester. Although the tee is some 30 feet higher than the green, the approach to that green is a long uphill one, requiring a long iron by most. The back nine is the easier for more advanced players, as there are 3 par fives to take advantage of. The par 3 17th hole is the only hole challenged with water. The reclaimed mine pond covers most of the distance between tee and green on this 170 yard beauty. Check the wind for club selection.
