This Arthur Hills designed course was opened in 1995 and was built atop the beautiful rolling hills of Carroll County. Hill's natural design philosophy uses the ravines and elevation changes of the terrain to create some of the most challenging and unique golf holes in the area. Water hazards (ponds and streams) come into play on seven holes. The most demanding hole at River Downs is #9, a 224-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over a large ravine to the green. In its first year of operation, River Downs Golfers' Club was given an "Honorable Mention " as one of the "Best Courses in the Baltimore/Washington Area" by "Washington Golf Magazine." It is truly one of the "Must Play" courses in the area. Tee times are reserved for the general public seven days in advance. Tournament and outing packages are available. There is also a practice putting green, target range, and full service pro shop available at this club.
